Whitley County

Protecting homes and businesses from the devastating effect of flooding has been a key focal point for Rogers.  He has secured essential infrastructure funds for flood control projects in Williamsburg and beyond so that businesses in Whitley County can continue to promote economic development and families can feel safe in their homes.  

Kentucky’s fifth district has a reputation for a strong, vibrant workforce, low energy costs, and a meaningful quality of life.  For decades, Rogers has endeavored to open up Whitley County and the entire region to federal business and service opportunities, chiefly through coordination with the non-profit, Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation.  These efforts have resulted in successfully attracting forward-leaning companies like CSC/Datatrac and the Department of State’s consular center in Williamsburg in establishing and growing operations in southern and eastern Kentucky. 

Education is a building block for successful communities which is why Rogers has secured funding over the years to bring important education funds to the University of the Cumberlands.  By equipping students with the tools they need to succeed, southern and eastern Kentucky will be providing the stepping stone necessary for Kentucky’s youth to begin their careers and help give back to the community.

Coalition Meetings
Third Monday of each month at the new Williamsburg City Hall council chamber room, 423 Main Street, Williamsburg. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. in September and November; noon in August, October and December. 

Whitley County UNITE
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky sponsored Camp UNITE several years on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
  • In September 2009 Former Harlem Globetrotter Melvin Adams was the featured speaker at "Fall Awakening 2009" held at Gatliff Chapel on the University of the Cumberland Campus in Williamsburg. Adams spoke to the student body on five occasions, with 300-400 people at each event. In addition, he spoke with the women's basketball and football teams. The event was sponsored by the university and Whitley County UNITE Coalition.
  • A free program - "Hot Drugs of Abuse" - on the current trends in drug abuse and what we can do in our families and communities was presented to approximately 150 people by UK College of Medicine Professor Emeritus Patrick J. Sammon and Lexington-Fayette County Assistant Chief Mike Bosse at the Corbin High School auditorium in March 2009.
