Protecting homes and businesses from the devastating effects of flooding has been a key focal point for Rogers. He has secured essential infrastructure funds for flood control projects and brought a National Weather Service Station to Jackson so that businesses and families in Breathitt County are more prepared and protected from severe storms. He also successfully fought for FEMA to cover nearly all of the eligible costs from the May 2009 floods that overwhelmed local communities and resources.
Kentucky’s Fifth Congressional District has a reputation for a strong, vibrant workforce, low energy costs, and a meaningful quality of life. For decades, Rogers has endeavored to open up Breathitt County and the entire region to federal business and service opportunities, chiefly through coordination with the non-profit, Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corporation. These efforts have resulted in successfully attracting forward-leaning companies, like Appalachian Regional Manufacturing to establish and grow operations in Jackson.
For years southern and eastern Kentucky has been plagued by straight pipes, inadequate septic systems and contaminated drinking water. Prompted by this need, Rogers secured important funding for Breathitt County to expand water line infrastructure which is not only good for the environment, but important for economic development and essential for clean drinking water and healthy living.
