WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers released the following statement after President Trump heavily criticized the World Health Organization (WHO) for its failed response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I agree with the President’s concerns about accountability and transparency at the World Health Organization.
"Just one year ago, I released a report exposing the WHO’s dangerously misleading and, in some instances, outright false claims about the safety and efficacy of prescription opioids.
"Once again, WHO's actions are raising red flags. The COVID-19 pandemic has required a rapid response around the globe, yet this leading health organization has fallen short and its credibility continues to suffer.
"As former Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and now as Ranking Member of the State, Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, I have always insisted on the highest level of oversight of precious taxpayer dollars.
"I will work to ensure the WHO takes action on transparency and desperately needed reforms. Now more than ever, the health and well-being of Americans depend on it.”
