U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s executive order to review the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule:
“I applaud President Trump for his determination to roll back this extreme power grab by the Obama administration. The WOTUS rule would give unelected bureaucrats the authority to hand out costly fines for any unapproved dirt-moving activity — from farming to private land construction. This formal review is the first step to cut through the red tape currently restricting our nation’s miners, farmers, small business owners and hard working Americans.”
Last year, Rogers voted for S.J. Res. 22, a joint resolution disapproving of a rule redefining Waters of the United States under the Clean Water Act, in an effort to block the rule and prohibit any new rules with similar intent. In 2015, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a nationwide stay against the rule.
