Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05), Dean of the House, released the following statement regarding the Bureau of Prison's final Environmental Impact Statement signaling the agency is moving forward with construction of a prison facility and camp in Letcher County, Kentucky.

“We are moving forward in Letcher County! I was thrilled to see the positive environmental impact statement from the Bureau of Prisons, confirming they are proceeding with plans to build a safe, modernized prison and create hundreds of jobs in East Kentucky. I applaud the agency for their thorough studies at the site in Roxanna and across the region, as well as the wealth of public feedback that they have accepted through this lengthy process, which has now spanned nearly 20 years.

“As we await the final steps, I have invited the BOP Director to come see the investments that have been made in Letcher County, in good faith, as local leaders have prepared for the prison to be built.”

Congressman Rogers has championed the prison proposal alongside the Letcher County Planning Commission for nearly 20 years.
