WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) voted to extend government operations through the beginning of 2024 to avoid a harmful shutdown before the holidays. The House passed Speaker Mike Johnson's proposed two-step, stop-gap measure, fully funding U.S. troops and providing Congress more time to thoroughly complete federal funding bills for fiscal year 2024.

"I applaud Speaker Johnson's first big win on the House Floor, giving the American people added confidence through the upcoming holidays," said Congressman Rogers. "On the heels of Veteran’s Day, it ensures that we continue providing critical resources to our military members defending America and our interests around the world, and takes care of our country’s heroic veterans. It also includes temporary extensions for critical expiring programs, such as Community Health Centers, the National Flood Insurance Program, and others that are important to rural regions like Kentucky’s Fifth District."

"While a CR is not my preferred method of conducting business, a government shutdown, right before the holidays, does our nation no good. We need more time to complete our fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills to give the House a better negotiating position with the Senate, so we can eventually pass full year appropriations bills," added Congressman Rogers.

The bipartisan bill passed 336-95 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
