WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers released the following statement as the U.S. House of Representatives works to secure U.S. elections and avoid a government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2024.

“With the Presidential election only a few weeks away, we cannot afford a government shutdown or bypass a commonsense opportunity to safeguard our elections for the American people, by ensuring that only American citizens may vote in November. The first vote may have failed, but we must power through for the future of our country.”

On Wednesday evening, Congressman Rogers voted for the Continuing Resolution and Other Matters Act of 2025, a stop-gap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown at the end of September. The measure extends federal funding through March 28, 2025 and includes the SAVE Act, requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship when registering to vote and removing non-citizens from existing voter rolls. The House did not pass the legislation, but will continue to work toward a resolution before the deadline next week.
