WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) voted for the Protecting Domestic Mining Act (H.R. 1501) on Wednesday to expedite permitting for American mining and mineral processing. 

“We need to strengthen mining in America, not only to create jobs in the coal industry and lower energy rates, but to empower the U.S. supply chain from mining to manufacturing. Products that are Made in America, ultimately start with Mining in America,” said Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. “This bill streamlines the permitting process and clears roadblocks for American production, so we don’t have to rely on foreign countries for raw materials.” 

Last year, the United States depended on imports for more than half of its supply of 54 non-fuel mineral commodities, giving other countries leverage over American workers, manufacturers and national security. 

H.R. 1501 permanently makes domestic mining and mineral processing eligible sectors for FAST-41. It does not waive environmental laws, eliminate required reviews, or guarantee a permit. 

The bill passed the House and now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
