Guarantees SNAP Benefits through September 2026
Restores Pay for Military and Federal Workers
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) voted to end the longest federal government shutdown on record by supporting the Continuing Appropriations Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act of 2026.
The bill extends government operations through January 30, 2026, guarantees SNAP food benefits through September 2026, restores pay for the military and all federal employees, gets air travel back on track before the holidays, and includes three federal funding bills for fiscal year 2026, including all veterans’ programs.
“It’s a shame that the American people’s paychecks and SNAP benefits were ‘leveraged’ by Washington Democrats to keep the government shutdown for their own agenda. Thankfully, after more than 40 days, enough Democrats saw the light and decided to vote with Republicans to pass the bill and responsibly reopen the federal government,” said Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. “This bill gives us more time to work on healthcare needs and other funding priorities, while ensuring no more federal paychecks are missed and no more people go hungry – something that should never be negotiable. As an appropriator, I’m glad we picked up lost time by passing three federal funding bills in this package for next year, including veterans’ health care benefits, funding for our farmers and rural broadband. We have a lot of work left to do and I’m grateful to get the country back on track.”
As Dean of the House, Congressman Rogers led a House bereavement resolution to adjourn in memory of former Vice President Dick Cheney who passed away on November 3, 2025. Rogers and Cheney served in the House together from 1981 to 1989.
