Special E-newsletter: Operation UNITE and the National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit

Dear Friends,

In the midst of the nation's deadly opioid epidemic, it is important to highlight the ongoing work across the country to save lives and to plant hope for recovery. In Kentucky's Appalachian region, we have been battling this public health crisis since the early 2000s, when Oxycontin and other powerful painkillers caused addiction and accidental overdose rates to skyrocket.

Instead of hiding this stigma-ridden problem in our communities, we united and recruited help from every corner of the country to turn the tide of addiction with a holistic approach, including law enforcement, treatment and education. I shared our success story with the entire Republican Conference, hoping other communities can implement some of the same life-saving practices.

Today, I am proud to share it with you as well, to spur hope, encourage more advocacy, and to invite you to join this growing international movement to address what the CDC Director calls the "epidemic of our time."

Please take a moment of your time to watch the video below and learn how you can help save lives in your community.

Sincerely,

Hal
